W.A.C.A.BC community programs in action

What We Do

Programs & Initiatives

Six pillars of service that guide everything we do — from preserving cultural heritage to empowering the next generation of African-Canadian leaders.

Building Community Through Action

At W.A.C.A.BC, we believe that meaningful change comes through sustained, community-driven action. Our six core programs reflect the diverse needs of the African diaspora in British Columbia — and our commitment to meeting those needs with excellence, compassion, and cultural pride.

Cultural Preservation

Keeping our roots alive across generations

Africa is home to over 3,000 distinct ethnic groups, hundreds of languages, and millennia of artistic, musical, and philosophical traditions. Our Cultural Preservation program exists to ensure that this extraordinary heritage is not lost as our community builds its life in British Columbia.

Youth Empowerment

Investing in the leaders of tomorrow

African-Canadian youth face unique challenges — navigating two cultures, confronting systemic barriers, and building identity in a society that does not always reflect their heritage. Our Youth Empowerment program provides the mentorship, skills, and community that young people need to thrive.

Community Development

Strengthening the fabric of our community

A strong community is built on connection, mutual support, and shared infrastructure. Our Community Development program works to create the networks, resources, and advocacy that make W.A.C.A.BC members feel supported and empowered in every aspect of their lives in BC.

Education

Knowledge as the foundation of empowerment

Education is the great equalizer — and our Education program is committed to ensuring that every member of our community has access to the learning opportunities they need to succeed. From early childhood literacy to professional development, we support learning at every stage of life.

Volunteerism

Ubuntu in action — giving back together

The spirit of Ubuntu — 'I am because we are' — is at the heart of our Volunteerism program. We mobilize our community to serve not only one another, but the broader BC society, building bridges of goodwill and demonstrating the extraordinary contributions of the African diaspora to Canadian life.

Compassion without borders

Our Humanitarian Service program responds to need — both in BC and across Africa — with compassion, urgency, and practical action. We believe that our responsibility to one another does not end at national borders, and that the African diaspora in BC has a unique role to play in supporting communities in need.
